Barbara Blanchard, M.Ac. Lic.Ac., Dipl. Ac. (NCCAOM)®, Dipl. ABT (NCCAOM)®, Acupressure Shiatsu AOBTA®-CI Founding Director of the former Acupressure Therapy Institute and AOBTA Certified Instructor of Acupressure, Barbara Blanchard has more than 35 years experience in teaching and developing curriculum. She specializes in Acupressure Shiatsu, Acupoint energetics, traditional Chinese medical theory (TCM), magnet therapy, moxibustion and other adjunct therapies.

Barbara is a dynamic teacher interested in practical application of theory or best clinical results. With a lifelong passion for learning and education, in addition to her private practice in Cambridge, MA. Barbara is one of the three founding teachers and primary mentors for Eastern Medicinal Therapies Education Center (EMTEC).

Teacher Note: As this is the second part in the Extraordinary Vessel series program participants must have some prior knowledge of the Extraordinary Vessels, or come having learned their pathways and primary access points. Open to students who have taken foundational classes in Chinese medical theory.

EXTRAORDINARY VESSELS and WOMEN’S HEALTH: PAINFUL MENSES
Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

The Extraordinary Vessels are a unique group of special channels with broad influence on the whole body and psycho-emotional health of the individual. The Extraordinary Vessels are said to evolve from the “uterus” or deepest source of Qi. Learn the connections that the Extraordinary Vessels have between the “uterus” and Heart. 

Review aspects of women’s health including menses, reproduction and menopause. This workshop will look closely at Painful Menses. Review the Four Phases of menses and the specific TCM patterns of symptoms for each phase. Understand the importance of the Zang Fu and the Extraordinary Vessels in the woman’s menstrual cycle. Consider the different Extraordinary Vessels best suited for specific treatments. Class discussion will consider Acupuncture and Acupressure treatment strategies. Practice and receive one Esoteric Acupressure Sequence for treating a physiological woman’s issue while balancing the emotions.

This course covers the following:

1. Four phases of the menstrual cycle

2. Zang Fu that play a part in menses

3. The Extra Vessels that are important in menses

4. Recognize clinical TCM patterns of painful menses

5. Best treatment plans and times of treatment

6. Compare and contrast Acupuncture and Acupressure treatment strategies.

7. Acupressure Sequence for treatment of Painful Menses

EXTRAORDINARY VESSELS and WOMEN’S HEALTH: MENOPAUSE
Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Menopause is a natural part of a woman’s life cycle. Understand menopause from a Chinese medicine perspective. Discuss the main symptoms of menopause and the various TCM patterns of menopausal symptoms. Further your understanding by learning the correlations with the Extraordinary Vessels Ren Mai, Chong Mai and Dai Mai.

Review factors that aggravate symptoms. Consider treatment protocols for various menopausal symptoms and discuss the important Acupoint prescriptions. Finally, practice and receive an Esoteric Acupressure Sequence for treatment to alleviate symptoms and balance the Shen spirit.

This course covers the following:

1. Menopause from a Chinese medicine perspective

3. Factors that aggravate the menopausal symptoms

4. Importance of the Extra Vessels, Jing and Shen

EXTRAORDINARY FU and AGING
Sunday, April 8, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

What is aging and how do we look at it from a Western and Chinese medicine viewpoint. What are the Extraordinary Fu and how are they related to aging. Learn the correlation between the Extraordinary Fu and common diseases of the elderly. Study some of the common geriatric symptoms and how to differentiate TCM patterns of disharmony.

Understand the significance of Jing, Shen and the most important Zang Fu to include in treatment protocols for the aging. Consider the importance of psycho-emotional conditions in the elderly and the best ways of treatment. Both Acupuncture and Acupressure strategies will be covered. Practice and receive an Acupressure Sequence treatment for harmonizing psycho-emotional and physical conditions.

3. Common geriatric conditions and TCM patterns

EXTRAORDINARY VESSELS and the CURIOUS ORGANS:
Correspondences and Implications for Treatment
Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. 

Acupuncture theory studies Qi through meridians and organs. The traditional yin and yang organs are known as the Zang Fu. There are six additional organs known as the Curious Organs or Extraordinary Fu. This workshop will introduce the significance of the Extraordinary Fu, their energetic functions and pairings with the Extraordinary Vessels.

Previous knowledge of the Extraordinary Vessels. Emphasis will be on the Extraordinary Fu and how to focus on them within treatment. Class discussion will consider both Acupuncture and Acupressure treatment strategies. Hands-on practice will include an the opportunity to practice and recieve an Acupressure treatment for one of the Extraordinary Fu with an Extraordinary Vessel.

This course covers the following:

1. The six Curious Organs and their energetic functions

2. The correspondences between the Extraordinary Fu and the Extraordinary Vessels

3. Acupressure and Acupuncture treatment protocols

4. Hands-on practice of one Esoteric Acupressure Sequence that pairs one of the Extraordinary Fu with an Extraordinary Vessel
